December 2019 ~ Project Care Track Saves Lives

Thank you to all who attended our meeting last night, especially during this busy holiday season! It was great to see our current members, and meet new people as well! A special thank you to Randy Fay of Snohomish County Search and Rescue Project Care Track who attended to receive his organization's check, but to also share with us what Project Care Track does and its impact on our community. Years ago, Snohomish County's Search and Rescue team attempted to locate a community member, John, who was affected by Alzheimer's disease. Although in the care of his loving wife, John managed to leave their home. Search and Rescue tried in vain to find him, but sadly, he was only located only after he had died. Search members were beyond saddened and knew there had to be a better way to track and locate those in need. They were introduced to a radio frequency device that they realized could be used to track the location of individuals prone to wander, including those suffering Alzheimer's/Dementia, or those with special needs, traumatic brain injuries, or autism.  Project Care Track clients are provided a one-ounce electronic bracelet that emits a unique radio signal 24 hours a day. A call to 911 triggers an immediate response to finding these beloved individuals. The bracelets have saved over 500 lives, reduced the number of hours required of search and rescue time, and given families peace and hope that their love ones can remain safe. It was an emotional moment hearing Randy describe the loss of John years before, to now, when countless lives can be saved. We're glad to team with organizations that provide life saving services. If you'd like more information regarding Project Care Track, they can be reached at: https://snohomishcountywa.gov/313/Project-Care-Track.

To date, 100+ Women Who Cares South Snohomish County has awarded nearly $25,000.00 in donations to Matthew House, Cocoon House, Beck's Place, Take the Next Step, Washington Kids in Transition, Hand in Hand, and now Snohomish County Search and Rescue Project Care Track. If you're not a member and would like to be, or would like to recruit your friends, please sign up on the Contact page. We're excited to get to 100 members and make that $10,000.00 award as soon as possible to a deserving non-profit. By becoming a member, you're able to nominate your favorite non-profit, and vote for it if it makes the shortlist!

Looking for a way to serve others?

100+ Women Who Care is a group of women who gather four times a year for a one-hour meeting, learn about local charities, and donate $100.00 to a charity the group selects. This combined donation of a potential $10,000 makes a real impact, without time-consuming fundraising events and planning. Our goal is for our 100+ Women Who Care giving circle to help those in greatest need in South Snohomish County. For as much as we may like to serve, we also recognize time is at a premium for many. By gathering only a few times a year, we're able to make the most of each member's time, and acknowledge that we have other many commitments as well.

Quarterly, the participants of each meeting will submit the name of one organization per $100.00 donation. You may also form teams of two (or more) individuals to make a combined $100.00 donation with a team constituting one vote (e.g., a two person team members would donate $50.00/person, a four person team would donate $25.00/person, etc.). Checks are written directly to the organization receiving your check; you can also make payments to those organizations online if they are set up to receive those. We ask that if you submit your donation outside of our regular meeting night, that you simply drop us a note so we know the payment has been made. We want to make sure members are given credit for their donations!

A shortlist of three organizations will be drawn by the steering committee.  These three organizations will then be vetted by Terri Inglis, our Organization Vetting Director. She will provide a letter to each organization requesting information regarding their 503(c)(3) status and how they plan to use the funds. Our steering committee will post the organizations' bio/links on our website for each of three organizations. This will give members an opportunity to research/review the groups that will be voted on one week prior to the next meeting.
The names of those organizations will be sent out to members for a vote.

Each meeting will start over with three new nominees. We will donate to an organization only one time in a three year period.

If there happens to be a local disaster in South Snohomish in which residents require aid, and it is agreed to by a majority vote at the current meeting, we can instead choose to assist victims of that disaster rather than choosing an organization from three nominees. We can alter or change this process for one time only during a single year. For example, if a natural disaster incident were to occur in the South Snohomish County area, funds for our next meeting can be diverted to a reliable aid resource, e.g., the Red Cross, Snohomish County Search and Rescue, etc.

Upcoming Meeting Dates

Our next meeting will be March 9, 2020. We'll notify you of the location as soon as it is confirmed. In addition to each member's $100.00 pledge, optional donations for items will also be accepted. If you have any ideas for these items, please let us know. In the past we've accepted school supplies, food bank contributions, pet supplies, and toys for kids. It's just one more way we can make an impact on our communities!
